Bright Bodies in Blind Communities, SAIC (John Kurtich's archive), 2013
The performance 'Bright Bodies in Blind Communities' took the form of an hour long interactive experience for over 80 audience members. Using a live feed, Justus Harris directed a dialog between archival video showing the founder of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago Performance Department's classes and a present day interpretation involving the audience. The audience comprised of performers and non-performers across multiple generations. The original classes included reading of quotations on love, marriage, and life from ancient Greek writings as well as movement exercises and my class challenged the audience to contribute to this process of quotation allowing them to choose and then read quotes related to immigration, teaching, illness, queerness, marriage, and democracy.
The performance was site specific and took place in the SAIC performance department space where Jaremba taught and is now part of an archive that includes both his original classes and the live class from the evening.
